Our Fair Carousel, Inc....is a non-profit organization founded in November 1988 to rescue
the former Minnesota State Fair carousel from auction and to operate it for the public. The
mission of the 501 (c) (3) organization includes not only saving, restoring and operating this antique
carousel but also educating the public about the history and value of such carousels as an American art
form.
The organization's operations manager is Tamara O. Beckley. OFC's address is the same as the carousel (see bottom of page).Co-founders of Our Fair Carousel are husband and wife Peter J. Boehm and Nancy A. Peterson of St. Paul, Minnesota, who also serve as president and secretary of the board of directors. The 25-member board also includes Gerard L. Cafesjian, the major benefactor for whom the carousel is now named, and people who volunteer their time and talents in accounting, law, historic preservation, marketing, fund-raising and other areas. The City of St. Paul has two representatives appointed by the mayor; one represents residents of the Como neighborhood and the other is usually an administrator with the Parks and Recreation Division. Ramsey County appoints one representative who lives in Ramsey County outside of St. Paul city limits. Many of the board members are also active volunteers at the carousel itself. | |
